Common questions
Most of our photos are old prints. Can we still add them?
Yes. Snap a photo of the print with your phone — lay it flat in good light — or upload a scan. It goes in with the same year, names, and description as any other photo. Many contributors photograph a whole album page, then add the details afterward.
Who should own the family archive?
Choose one relative to own the Collection — they invite the rest of the family to add photos and help organize. Ownership can be transferred later, so the archive passes down instead of living on one person’s account.
How is this different from a shared drive or group album?
A shared drive holds files. A Collection holds the context too — the year, the names, the story behind each photo — and lets a team sort, tag, and approve together. You end up with an organized archive, not a folder of mystery photos.
Do contributors need an account?
No. You share a link, they add photos and details from any phone or computer, and their uploads arrive for your team to review. The owner and curators sign in to organize; contributors just use the link.
How long do we have access — and does it renew?
A Collection is a 12-month collaborative workspace: you can upload, organize, publish, and export the whole time. Renew to keep the workspace going year after year — your archive carries forward, it doesn’t reset. If you decide not to renew, there’s a grace window after the term where the owner and curators can still download everything before the workspace closes.
